Sunset Rainbow

Late this afternoon, I was watching college football and casually looked to my right.  There, between the tall buildings was one of the most spectacular rainbows we've ever had the pleasure to see.
The northern "end of the rainbow".
The eastern "end of the rainbow".

It stayed put for a very long time--long enough for me to grab the camera and snap several photos.  We could see nearly the entire arc and the eastern third was a double, barely visible.
Same northern view, from my chair.
North-east view of the hills turned to gold by the setting sun.

Rain drops were on the windows, but didn't hurt the images much.  The colors on the northern portion were amazingly intense.  Luckily, I had time to change the camera settings several times in an attempt to capture the show as close as possible to how it looked from our living room.
Looking down at the increasingly strong autumn colors.

Hope you had a good Saturday, too.

  1. Rainbows are enchanting. We used to live in a highrise with panoramic views and often witnessed rainbows like this that just hung in the air. I wasn't into cameras then. Too bad. Glad you caught this wonder. Beautiful.

  2. Good Morning Linda,
So, another thing in common. It was lucky that it lasted so long. I fully expected that as soon as I went to fetch the camera it would disappear.
Sadly, (but, just a little) the photos never quite do justice to what our eyes perceive. Luckily, most of us realize this and just enjoy the beauty for what we know it to truly be.
I'm glad you enjoyed the view and that it brought back some good memories. Have a nice day, Linda.
    Sincerely,
    Gary.

  3. We are definitely receiving nature's bounty in the way of colors, rainbows after or during storms and that golden light everywhere! Thanks for sharing :)

  4. Hi Rhonda,
It's always a pleasure to share something so special. Not unlike your latest post, which really struck a chord with me. You well know that I do strive for perfection, and likewise know it is unobtainable.
Strangely, however, it drives me happily onward. Oh, sure...I've made reference to quitting, but it's just so much hogwash and jest. I'll never stop until the old body forces it. Sadly, that haunting spectre can't be too far off. It doesn't affect me, rather it's kind of like an episode of "The Twilight Zone", with the Grim Reaper hanging around, patiently waiting, but not interrupting my painting. Almost like an old friend sitting in my studio, quietly passing the time, perhaps reading, napping or having a cup of coffee. Waiting.
So, perfection may never happen for me, but what a grand quest!
Rhonda...I have no idea where this came from, but I hope you understand.
    Have a great week!
    Sincerely,
    Gary.

  8. Good Evening Lisa,
I hope you visit here before we move and get to see it in person. Not everyone immediately falls in love with the idea of living downtown, but Portland's is so vibrant and has so much going on it was love at first sight for us.
Who knows...maybe you two will never look at Kansas quite the same way after a visit here. I think most people who visit us see it more like a hotel suite than a home--you know...nice to visit and they love the view, but they return to ground level and their idea of what a home is supposed to be.
We've also come to love having so many shops and museums, concert halls and movie theaters, art galleries and art supply stores, restaurants and cafes, countless food carts, doctors, dentists, eye care specialists, the huge central library, the parks and even the airport so close and no need to have a car to get to any of them. Now that's special!
It's pretty obvious, Lisa, that we'll miss Portland.
But, enough of the Chamber of Commerce speech. Have a great day tomorrow.
    Sincerely,
    Gary.
